Back at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel!

It’s always a treat to go to the Christchurch Harbour Hotel. It’s probably my favourite wedding venue in Dorset. Lucy and Chris, from Weymouth, had decided to book it for their wedding and clearly felt the journey was well worth it and I agree! It’s always nice to try new techniques etc with a wedding. The first thing I was keen to try was my fisheye lense. I don’t use it that much but when i’m in smaller spaces, it’s very useful. The ceremony itself was full of joy and humour. It’s how all ceremonies should be! With this venue

A wedding with a lovely view!

Mayday bank holiday weekend and I headed for the Ocean View hotel up at East Cliff in Bournemouth for Hannah and Carl’s wedding. The weather looked nice (more than can be said for the pre wedding shoot!!) and the hotel’s location was lovely with fantastic sea views plus it had it’s own swimming pool. Hannah and Carl were a fantastic couple to photograph. Very easy going and friendly.  The wedding got underway and was very relaxed and informal. Soon afterwards it was time to get on with the family photos. I was determined to make full use of the swimming

Amy and Andy’s pre wedding shoot

It was fun taking pictures of Amy and Andy last week up at Boscombe gardens. I hadn’t been up there for a while so I saw it through fresh eyes. These bluebells caught my eye so I used them for some foreground interest. Amy and Andy are getting married at Merley House near Wimborne and I’m quite excited about it as I’ve never photographed a wedding there. Andy told me at the start that he didn’t like having his photo taken and found it hard to smile in photos. However he seemed fine today as a lot of my poses

New baby portraits

It’s always a pleasure to take photos of babies. They’re not self conscious and you can try different ideas to see which work the best. I photographed this little boy’s sister a couple of years ago so it was nice to be asked to capture the newest addition to the family. Capturing different expressions makes baby photography fun! A big close up always looks good It’s always nice to capture details.

New family portraits

I’m always happy to photograph families of any age. This family were very comfortable in front of the camera especially the teenage girls. The girls just seemed to know what looks good. But that’s not always the case.  A big part of my job is to direct people, suggest poses which people are happy with and try to make them feel comfortable (or less uncomfortable!) in front of the camera. This was a fun straightforward shoot. If you want to get some photos of your family, do get in touch. It doesn’t take long but the results are well worth

Family portraits

Well it’s not often I get to squeeze 11 people into my studio but that’s exactly what happened the other day when the Smith family came for a family photo shoot a few days before Christmas. I took lots of different photos as the group was made up of three different families but everyone was really patient and the children happy once I got the jelly babies out! All I can say is the children were brilliantly behaved and it made for a really smooth session. One of the mum’s was pregnant and whilst photographing her and her husband, her

Christmas weddings

With Christmas not far off, it got me thinking of Christmas weddings I’ve photographed in the past. There’s no doubt that churches, hotels, in fact any venue at this time of year look really nice. Look at this picture of a local church I worked at a couple of years ago. The altar just looks so much more attractive than usual.       Weddings at this time of year are, for obvious reasons, not that popular as it’s cold and the light is poor etc but to me and no doubt others, there’s always something special about a Christmas wedding.

Two new wedding bookings

In the past week or so, I’ve booked a couple of lovely weddings for 2016. Thanks to Amy and Andrew for booking me for their wedding at Merley House, a venue I’ve not worked at before so I’m excited about that and also thanks to Nigel and Donna who have booked me for their wedding at the Highcliff Marriott Hotel in Bournemouth, a really nice venue, perfect for weddings (you can get married in the gardens overlooking the sea which is stunning!) and also where politicians stay when their party conferences take place in Bournemouth. On a different note, I

Subtle wedding photos

Sometimes it’s the subtle detail photos which can really add interest to a set of wedding photos especially when presented in a wedding album. I took these three photos at a recent wedding and I like all of them for different reasons: the bridesmaid glass with the bridesmaid blurred in the foreground and the wedding guest shot with colourful foreground interest are particular favourites of mine. Remember, a professional photographer will spot opportunities like these and use techniques which add artistic effect.

Wedding at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel

Yesterday’s wedding at the Christchurch Harbour hotel was one of the most enjoyable weddings I’ve worked at for ages. The setting at the hotel is amazing as it sits right next to the water’s edge but also the weather was fantastic and the couple managed to plan a very relaxed day for all their guests. A whole group photo was made more fun by the releasing of a whole load of balloons. The venue has a little jetty which is perfect for wedding photos. After an ‘afternoon tea’ wedding breakfast and some excellent singing from Jason Jay Taylor, Clare and

photos on the beach!

Well it’s always good to go to the beach and I’m very lucky to live only about a ten minute walk from the beach so I’ll quite often take couples or families down there for photos. Claire and Andrew were keen to have some practice photos before their wedding in May so we headed down to Southbourne beach one sunday morning and these were a few of my favourites. Hope you like them and I can’t wait for the wedding at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel in a couple of weeks’ time.

Wedding Fun by the water

Karen and Jools’ wedding last week was great fun.  They decided to incorporate lots of different water themed elements into their wedding and they were lucky as the weather was ideal, if anything slightly too warm.  The couple got married at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel which is a beautiful hotel and directly overlooks Christchurch harbour. It even has a little jetty from which boats can be launched etc. Then a small rowing boat arrived and the couple slightly nervous, carefully boarded the boat desperate not to fall in the water! However their nerves soon subsided and it wasn’t long before
