Photo of the week

I just found this photo whilst looking through some shots of a venue where I’ve been asked to photograph a wedding later this year. I just remember that on our way to the venue, the couple and I stopped off at the New Forest to capture some natural shots. What caught my eye about this photo was two things. First the lovely setting but also the great expressions on the couple’s faces.

Miramar Winter Wedding

My last wedding took me to one of Bournemouth’s most popular wedding venues, The Miramar. However, it was early January and very wet so outdoor photos were not on the agenda. The couple didn’t want a load of portraits of themselves preferring a more laid back coverage. The day started with some shots of the bride and bridesmaids at the hotel. Then I headed off to the Church where the rain continued. The bride, Carmen, had to move fast to get into the church quickly but she still managed a smile. The service took place at Corpus Christi Church in Boscombe,

Lads photo shoot

Happy New Year to everyone! My last shoot took place between Christmas and New Year. I got an enquiry from a guy wanting some photos of a group of 30 year old mates-all men! Not the usual sort of request but why not? I’m always up for a challenge. It was one of the guys birthday’s and they were having a reunion get together so actually it was quite a good idea but as with all these things it’s about capturing the mood and trying to get the balance right between it being fun but ultimately producing well composed shots. Well

Family photos

Emma and James came to get some family photos recently and I made sure I had plenty of toys ready for little Fin, their 15 month old boy. It’s always the same-the smaller the child the more they dominate proceedings. This can be fun, chaotic and a challenge all at the same time. I tried some static poses but they weren’t really working, results ok but not characterful enough so I suggested some moving around games and the results were much better. Kids like being playful but they also like to copy the behaviour of others. As the family went to

more baby portraits

I seem to be doing more and more baby portraits at the moment which is no bad thing. Babies are great subjects as they are usually quite smiley and look great as long as you light them properly. The increase in baby portraiture is partly a result of my latest promotion called ‘watch your baby grow’ in which mothers are offered three portrait sittings in the baby’s first year. I usually photograph them at 2-3 months, 6 months(when they’re likely to be sitting up) and 11-12 months when they’re standing-all very different stages which gives parents lots of variety in

Family photo session

I’m glad to say enquiries for weddings are on the up at the moment. Taken a few bookings this week and got a new enquiry today from a recommendation which is always a good sign! Last week I had a nice family portrait session, the parents with their young daughter. I’d photographed the couple’s wedding five years ago so it was nice to see them again. Here’s a few piccies from Fern, Darren and Holly’s  shoot.

Newborn baby photo shoot

I hadn’t done a baby shoot for a while so I was quite excited when Katie, the baby’s mum phoned one day last week and said, ‘I’ve got an 11 day old baby. Are you available to take a set of photos for me?’ Katie, Scott and the baby came the next morning. I heated my studio till it was nice and warm and got straight to work as soon as they arrived. It was just a really nice easy straightforward shoot. I tried a variety of angles and used my macro lense to get some nice close up shots,

A lovely wedding

I photographed a super wedding at the Chine Hotel last Sunday-the weather was great which helped as did the setting for the ceremony-a old church in Wimborne St Giles with a beautiful green outside for photos. Ozlem and Chris has chosen great venues for their wedding and both were excellent subjects on the day. The bridesmaids were stunning all dressed in red polka dot. The heat was rising so we headed down to the beach at Boscombe, just a short walk through the hotel’s gardens but first it was time for an ice cream! The beach wasn’t too busy and
